Fall Fashion 2012 Trends: Part Two

By Bonny Osterhage

In the last issue, we spotlighted several eco friendly fashion options from all of the latest fall looks. There were so many fab finds, we divided the feature into two parts. This week, we bring you the rest of the best to keep you looking on trend, all season.

Ballet slippers have pirouetted aside this season to make room for the more sophisticated smoking slipper. We were thrilled to find this vegan version that combines the style with another haute fall trend: brocade! This flat loafer-style shoe plays well with tights and skirts, but we also like it with boyfriend jeans and trousers. An economical $45 at www.lulus.com.

Like animal print, military inspired fashions seem to be here to stay. Once again, they are showing up everywhere, but this time it’s more refined than rugged. This organic cotton coat is a wonderful example, with its double-breasted lapel that closes with a single hook and eye. We also salute the use of red trim against the tan herringbone pattern. Very nice! ON SALE FOR $170 (normally $195) at www.cleanspirited.com.

Nothing makes a waist look smaller than a wide belt. It’s like an optical illusion of an hourglass figure. This veggie tanned leather belt will cinch you up stylishly. Try it with your favorite dress, over a cardigan and skirt, or a tunic with leggings. It can completely change your look – and your shape! $130 at www.braveleather.com.

Unlike the super slim cigarette pant, the matchstick is fuller at the top and tapers to the ankle. The abstract print on this black silk pair was inspired by crystal caves and adds an edginess that is accentuated by the addition of hip black booties. A very chic look indeed! $298 at www.rogannyc.com.

Size does matter, but so does shape when it comes to the season’s best bags. Gone are the slouchy, hobo styles and in their place are tailored satchels, perfect for work and weekends. This vegan version has a sturdy frame with a zippered top, a detachable strap, and a back pocket for easy-access storage. Destined to become a classic. $130 at www.mattandnat.com.
